Horsehead Nebula (B33)
It is one of the most iconic deep-sky objects and challenging target for amateur telescopes it appears as a small, faint, greyish patch surrounded by brighter regions nebula IC 434 – the finger resembles the silhouette of a horse’s head, similar to the side-on profile of a classic knight chess piece or Sea Horse.

The darker nebulosity that forms the nebula is known as B33, the 33rd entry in the Barnard Catalogue of dark nebulae.

Below the main catalog to use to find and observe dark nebulae was created by American astronomer Edward Barnard who is more commonly known as E.E. Barnard, who compiled a list of dark nebulae known as the Barnard Catalogue (B).
