2026 BDAA Visit to AstroFest, London

o
The British Deaf Astronomical Association gathered
in London on Saturday 7 February for a day
being involved in discovery at AstroFest.
o

  • From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere buzzed with turning it into something insteresting useful, and the shared excitement of deaf astronomers from across the UK.

Exhibitors showcased advances in imaging, optics, and equipment, offering us the chance to see how rapidly the field continues to develop progress.

During the break for lunchtime, we were exchanged, questions asked, and inspiration gathered sharing the experiences for our own observing and imaging projects.

The event also gave our deaf members a chance to connect socially, strengthening the sense of community that defines the BDAA.

Whether discussing telescopes, sharing tips, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the day was filled with energy and enthusiasm.

Conference talks at AstroFest

  • Conference talks at AstroFest
AstroFest also offered a full programme of conference talks, all supported with clear subtitles, making the sessions accessible and enjoyable for our deaf astronomers.

    Feedback from Angela (Bracknell, Berkshire)
Angela said the organisers at AstroFest helped make this possible by providing subtitles for the talks and using large‑screen visuals that supported clear, engaging communication for everyone.

    Feedback from Casper (Epsom, Surrey)
Casper said our visit to AstroFest was a moment that showed us how important ~ it is of how valuable it is when deaf astronomers come together to learn, explore, and understand the universe in ways that are truly accessible and inclusive.

Feedback from Graham (South Stanley, County Durham)
Graham said the exhibition gave him more choice when deciding what to buy, and he enjoyed seeing new items he hadn’t come across before.”
