Astrophotography – Transit of Mercury

Transit of Mercury
The transit of Mercury happens when Mercury crosses between the Earth and the Sun during the daytime, allowing us to view the planet as a small dot going across the sun over the course of several hours.

Mercury at inferior solar conjunction
A transit of Mercury occurs when Mercury passes directly between the Sun and Earth, appearing as a small black dot moving across the Sun’s disk, and very close to the orbital plane of Earth.
These alignments are not very frequent, occurring about 13 times a century.

Transit of Mercury – the smallest and fastest planet in the Solar System.
We looked through some telescopes & binoculars as a black dot at Mercury moving across the face of the Sun that we won’t see it again until 2019 (Monday 11th November 2019).
