IC 63 (Ghost of Cassiopeia)
- IC 63, also known as the Ghost of Cassiopeia, is a mixed emission and reflection nebula located approximately 580 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.
o - IC 63 is sometimes dubbed the Ghost Nebula, or the ghost of Cassiopeia.
o - It glows under the heavy ultraviolet bombardment of a nearby hot, luminous blue giant variable star named 27 Gamma Cassiopeiae (Navi) – see annotated.
o - ESA/Huble says Ultraviolet radiation from Gamma Cassiopeiae bombards the hydrogen gas, making it glow while slowly destroying the nebula.
