- Cumulus (Cu)
– the classic fluffy, white “cotton-like” cloud you often see on a sunny day
o - Key features of Cumulus clouds
– Bright white with puffy, Flat base, or rounded tops.
– Look like heaps or piles.
– Usually forms when warn air rises and cools.
– Small cumulus → usually nice weather.
– Cumulus clouds are harmless at first, but they can grow bigger, they can turn into storm clouds (like cumulonimbus).
– If they grow tall enough, they can turn into thunderstorm clouds (called cumulonimbus).
o - Simple way to remember
– Cumulus = cotton clouds / fluffy + calm / fair weather (usually)..unless they grow.
