Glossary of Astronomy – dark matter
- dark matter is considered “dark” because it does not interact with light,
making it impossible to directly observe with telescopes. - without dark matter rapidly spinning galaxies as those circled ~ would sufficient gravitational glue to hold their stars.
- there are a possible explanations: there is more stuff (matter) that we don’t see with our telescopes ~ we call this dark matter.
