Glossary of Astronomy – exoplanets

  • a planet or more that orbits a star outside the solar system are called exoplanets.
  • exoplanets are very hard to see directly with telescopes ~ they are hidden by the bright glare of the stars they orbit.
  • 2024 to date, more than 5000 exoplanets have been discovered!
  • every form of life we know requires liquid water, so an exoplanet too close or too far from its host star is less likely to contain life.
