- Cirrostratus (Cs)
– a genus of high-level, thin, and whitish clouds that typically appear as a transparent veil covering large parts of the sky.
– Because they are composed of ice crystals, they are famous for creating “halos” ~ glowing rings around the sun or moon.
o - Key features of Cirrostratus clouds
– They consist entirely of tiny ice crystals due to the freezing temperatures at high altitudes.
o - Simple way to remember
– To remember Cirrostratus easily, just think of the name in two parts:
1) Cirro = “High” (like a high-altitude “curl” or wisp).
2) Stratus = “Layer” (like a flat sheet or “stretched” out).
