Outing to Hunstanton Cliffs – the famous red and white striped cliffs at Hunstanton are an eye-catching attraction.

Although Hunstanton (map) is on the east coast of the UK – the base of the cliffs consists of red-brown carrstone – sandstone and pebbly sandstone which contains some feldspar and glauconite.

Chris explained about the rock; The Red Rock is actually chalk – the red colour comes from iron pigments. The red chalk is very rich in fossils (including ammonites and belemnites). The top of it, and the base of the overlying white chalk, are bioturbated by shrimp burrows.

Derek & Adrian were hunting for the fossils, there were many fossils displayed on the cliff, and viewed the difference colours of cliff. The colour of the red chalk is due to iron staining.

During the stay, we always enjoyed by observing the night skies and outings surrounding around the North Norfolk of unspoilt coastline.
