What is an emission nebula?
What is an emission nebula?
oooo

An emission nebula is a cloud of plasma emitting light in many red colours.
Because most of the universe is made of hydrogen, many emission nebulae appear red.
Emission nebulae emit light in wavelengths that are visible.
They tend to be red because hydrogen emits red light when ionized.
oooo

The most common source of ionization is high-energy ultraviolet photons emitted from a nearby hot star.
oooo

The glowing is caused by a star being near the nebula.
oooo

Hydrogen glows red when it is hot. If the nebula is very hot, other types of gas will be heated and the it might also glow blue and green.
